Serving Each Other in the People of Praise
Recently our household has dedicated many hours to working on our many houses. Working hardest to prepare Chris’ house (for the renters) and the Colfax house, while living out of the Holovaty house and the basement of Raclin, has given us plenty to do! (..that is not to mention that Chris seems to make a home out of LaSalle and others, the one:ten office and the corncob room)
Chris’ house needed packing, labelling, cleaning, and moving before the beginning of February when the renters arrived. Colfax needed and continues to need countless things done - moving, scrubbing floors, shovelling, unpacking, scrubbing floors again, washing dishes, cleaning walls, refinishing wood floors, decisions about paint colors, painting, cleaning, rearranging, dusting, conversations and more.
Working together as a household has left a pretty big impact on me. It is one thing that really unites us, and it tends to be a lot of fun! I think the bottom line is that we get to serve one another. Here are a few snapshots of pretty hardcore service:
- While cleaning the downstairs laundry tub, it became apparent that the drain had a major problem. I cautiously stuck my finger down the drain only to touch something slimy clogging it. It was SUPER nasty! I showed David to see if he had any wisdom about unclogging drains. Before I knew it, he was digging this repugnant, ungodly clump out of the drain for me!
- The week before our move, Trish’s grandpa passed away. Trish was leading up the moving endeavors and had to leave on pretty short notice. She promptly handed me a list of things to be done and details to be covered. Her organization was crucial to moving us forward!
- We have had some problems with people tracking salt and some dreadful debris (I’m not exactly sure what it was) from the walkway of Colfax onto the nice wood floors. In what was at least 0 degree weather with a subzero wind chill, Sean and Jeremy scoured the walkway outside so that our cleaning would no longer be in vain.
- Elizabeth cleans pretty much the whole upstairs to the Ellsworth house (where us four women live) when usually it’s a joint effort.
These are the first that come to mind, but there are MANY more examples that I havent mentioned. Talk about SERVICE!
