“So…what do you do?”

Every trip to MFB, our household bank, is an exciting exprience. This time I held around 60 checks plus a WAD of cash (from the conference) that Mary Seale had recorded on 6 different deposit slips - so I knew this trip would be especially exciting! Leslie, who’s seen me before, gave me her typical amiable greeting and looked at all of my checks. Then she says (as politely as possible) “So…what do you do?” And I laughed and told her about the People of Praise. Since she was stamping checks, I had an attentive audience for about 15 minutes and continued to tell her about money in common, household, the conference and christian community. Also, her friend was listening and they both had questions. They knew of POP because Christine Ziegler also goes there (for the sisterhood) - and they see her frequently. Clearly, the People of Praise is doing something revolutionary with money in common. AND we’re clearly a presence to reckon with!

So (the way EVERY good citybuilder should start any story), I was trying to serve you the best way possible and I thought, “I wonder if I could sign ‘Laura Ficker’ on 60 checks and get away with it?” Ahh, the exciting life of a citybuilder. =) Miss y’all!!

The funny thing is … Leslie and I had a “can you tell me again what you are doing?” conversation just the day before… and the other teller participated in our conversation as well! :)

Laura, maybe we should think about inviting them to the women’s evening of prayer and praise.

Hey, good idea having Laura do the finances. I was the Treasurer of the Student Council in high school. I ran on the slogan “Penny- Pincher Pat for Treasurer” and won. Cheesy huh? We made the most $ that year…mostly because I wouldn’t let the boys into the dances free…I had some though bouncers, and I watched every cent. Go Laura! It’s in the blood lines.
